Areas We Operate In

VOPA targets the entire Mandera County and Moyale in Marsabit County, In Somalia we work in Elwak Somalia and Bellet Hawa districts while in Ethiopia we work in Mubarak, Lahey, Kadaduma and Moyale Districts in Dawa Zone. The communities in this region are identified as the most vulnerable in Kenya due to frequent exposure to climate change and environmental degradation, armed conflicts, and political, economic and food crises that deteriorates their living conditions. Mandera Triangle (Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia) is a home to millions of pastoralists who roam the region with their livestock faced with continuous challenges of dwindling grazing resources. The pastoralists, despite their resilience, are constantly faced with shocks emanating from climate change, resource based conflicts, poverty as well human and livestock disease outbreaks. The region has also huge population poverty stricken rural and urban dwellers.

Organization Structure

VOPA organization has 7 board members who provide overall direction for the organization. The Board members meet on Bi-annual basis to discuss the progress and source for new opportunities. VOPA management structure is designed to encourage flexibility and autonomy on the part of its core management and support staff. The structure creates space of intellectual creativity and innovation and provides encouragement to staff members and other partners to adopt desirable working conditions. It is also designed to ensure maximum accountability and high quality output. The key management organs of VOPA comprise of the Board members, Chief Executive Officer, Program manager, Program officers, Admin/HR Department, Finance officers and supportive staff. For the smooth day to day running of operations as well as effectively and efficiently targeting administration of interventions, VOPA has developed functional management practices, stringent internal control systems and policies to monitor key management aspects and outputs. The most important systems and policies in place include the Financial Policy, Procurement Policy, Human Resource Development Policy, Security Policy, M & E Plan and Project implementation policy all paramount to successful implementation of programs.

How We Fund The Organization

VOPA is non-profit making organization that depends on both local and international donors to be able to carry out its intended programs and indeed to support the vulnerable communities. To raise the required resources, VOPA will undertake a problem-scoping assessment that not only informs but also forms the basis for project funding proposals to be submitted to the relevant donors and partners for effective interventions.
